"I am pleased to write a reference letter for Satya Starr. Satya began volunteer duties for the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center on September 13, 1999. As a volunteer counselor/companion her duties included responding to RDVIC's 24 hour hotline for victims. Satya has volunteered 426 hours of service. RDVIC requires volunteers to do two shifts a month. Satya was always eager to do more than the two shifts required. I found Satya to be compassionate to the needs of victims." - Darlene Henderson - Administrative Secretary

"I am pleased to write on behalf of Satya Starr. I hold the position of Crisis Line Coordinator at Helpmate and have been fortunate to work very closely with Satya. Satya completed Helpmate's intensive volunteer training in the Fall of 2000. She earnestly began volunteering through our children's program by offering consistent and appropriate child care services to our clients in support groups. Satya began volunteer work as a Crisis Line Advocate, as well. She approached her crisis line work with the same passion she approaches all of her work. She has a very firm commitment to women's issues. Satya is a truly remarkable woman. Along with her volunteer activities, Satya is a single mother and currently runs a child care center out of her home. She displays the same impassioned devotion to children's issues as she demonstrates for her work at Helpmate." - Melanie Gilpin - Crisis Line Coordinator

"I had the privilege of getting to know Satya Starr through her volunteer services at Our Voice. She has been an active volunteer since July 2001. Satya volunteers not only on the Crisis Line at Our Voice but with Helpmate as well. She is on call for 3-4 times per month at each agency. For Our Voice, on-call shifts require a volunteer to be accessible for 24 hour periods in which they answer crisis calls and possibly go to the local hospital to meet with a client after being attacked. Many people are surprised at the emotional strength required to volunteer at one crisis based organization but Satya finds the willpower within her to volunteer for two. Satya not only volunteers for two organizations that helps women but she is also fulfilling one of her passions by raising her daughter in a school that she runs out of her home. Satya competed with several experienced daycare instructors and in-home teachers for start up funding from Buncombe County; Satya received the funding and began her school "Daydream". Satya is extremely patient, understanding, caring and strong. Her maturity, intelligence and open heart make a great friend and a wonderful counselor. Satya is an amazing woman; full of great passion, dedication and love to help protect, heal and save women's lives." - Becky Davis - Volunteer Coordinator

"Satya is a brave spirit who is a very sensitive, empathic, Reiki master. She keeps her sensitivity in the face of all adversity and while sometimes she feels overwhelmed with the darkness, confusion, or cold hearted actions of others, she has courageously stood her ground. She is a modern warrior who is facing the challenge to reclaim and retain that essence that is the evidence of love, healing, sensitivity and the rarely acknowledged power of innocence and honesty. To think that one tiny woman will defy the will of the mass of her community, society, even the way of the whole world, and risk acceptance simply because her “instincts” tell her to do so, is a marvel!
I am inspired by the love and passion in her heart to really help create a safe space for the children who are entering into the world now. Her gentle soothing voice contrasts her strength and fierce warrior spirit dramatically.
Kind and giving, how can I not see her and other single mothers like her as a hero?
Perhaps, as Picasso once said, we will indeed, ” …make the world worthy of our children.” - Elonifer Skyhawk

"I feel called upon to speak good things about Satya that have become joyfully clear over time. It’s my perception that you are brave, honest, bright, and sweet. Satya Starr, both names are rightful and true. Your dedication to truth, and your starry radiance in the spiritual realm, are potent and palpable. You have a close, magical connection with nature, which responds instantly and vibrantly to your heart. You care for children, any of whom may be so very fortunate to be in your presence, and for the unfoldment and future of humanity, which is itself child-like in its need for guidance and nurturing. You consciously, bravely, and perseveringly stand in that place, lending your self and your life to planting seeds of good in the subtle, nurturing them through life as they unfold into the manifest world, where you affirm their existence and express thanks for their presence.
Your radiance is clear, and I humbly honor and thank you for this little one and any other stars who would like to join in.
Reflected in truth and with love.”

"She comes to me,
Sweet, strong, soul felt,
Reminding me I'm okay, I'm not alone
She breaths eternal flame out into the world cold
She sees awake with open eyes the beauty that surrounds her
Even when she has to look with great detail to find it
She emanates joy powerfully childishly uncontrolled unrefined
In purity with poise balance and intention
Her love pours into the realm selflessly freely unrestrained vulnerable
SO REAL
She dreams and allows the dream to live in the world flesh
Allows the spirit to feed the dream so it may manifest in substance
She speaks her truth, her heart, her being
With words that barely serve her form so true
I call to her the gift of reflection
That she may have reflected back to her
All that she sends out into others
Into us
And that the universe reflect her intentions
With an abundance of resources
Allowing her to serve her purpose
Share her joys
Live her passions
The least of what she deserves" - Shereen

"Satya is the essence of the Feminine.
To know her is to know the Goddess.
She is the epitome of the trinity...
Maiden, Mother, and Wise Woman.
Like the Ocean, is she
never to be tamed or conquered,
but revered and admired;
her tempests are amazing
and her waves are nourishing.
Blessed are those who have seen her beauty
in any of its aspects." - OXO Halo

""Satya" is Sanskrit for "Truth," and Satya is a beautiful ray of truth in human form, shining through the clouds of self-doubt in those around her, awakening us to ever deeper levels of consciousness and compassion. It is an amazing gift just to know that Satya is here among us at this time, and an even greater gift to know her as a friend and to experience her inspiring energy, her healing presence and her *totally* irresistable playfulness!" - David Ulansey
